2019 Annual EFTAG Retreat
What a weekend! Almost half the current membership attended the 2019 EFTAG retreat, and welcomed five visitors/ potential new members as well.
With so many creative minds in one space, the energy was amazing.
The weekend kicked off on Friday night with an impromptu book-making workshop presented by one of our visitors, Janetta.
After a brisk beach walk and yoga by some members, Saturday morning saw more book-making, discussion about creative pursuits and current works, followed by a getting to know you meeting and planning session for 2020. It’s looking as though there will be plenty of opportunities to stretch our imaginations next year.
The creativity and fun continued throughout the Saturday and Sunday, with sharing of skills and knowledge, and a great number of flowers being made for the Cervical Cancer Research fundraising project organised by Timeless Textiles in Newcastle. A number of new skills were learned to create a range of flowers made using different techniques, from felting, sewing to repurposing coffee pods. Our visitors jumped in and got their hands busy creating too.
Highlights of the weekend were Julie Brennan’s and Cathie Griffith’s “Step Into Paradise” presentation about the Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson exhibition at the Sydney Powerhouse Museum and Cathie’s presentation on Sunday about her recent trip to Bali working with a village creating goods from recycled plastic. Great job ladies – both presentations were fascinating.
Meanwhile, the creativity and textile art just kept on coming. Julie Brennan and Vivien worked on their felted carnivorous plants, Mandy was busy with her paper and mark-making, Marilyn created a amazing exhibition piece for the upcoming exhibition in Cobargo, Mischi and others worked on or discussed the Mona Hessing tribute and everyone else made, planned or shared their creative pursuits.
All in all a brilliant weekend, with the promise of an exciting 2020 ahead.
